Revolent · AI Forward Deployed Engineer Careers Program

You already ship production software. Now ship it at the frontier of AI.

Revolent’s hands-on, in-depth training program for proven engineers to become AI Forward Deployed Engineers (FDE). Training spans 6-8 weeks, depending on candidates’ prior experience and is followed by customer placement to grow real-world expertise. No deep AI or ML background required.

The opportunity

Building the AI was never the hard part. Deploying it is.

Models work in the demo. Making them work inside a real business with messy data, sceptical stakeholders and production constraints is where most enterprise AI stalls. The Forward Deployed Engineer is the role that closes that gap: the person who embeds with a customer and ships AI that actually lands. It’s one of the fastest-growing, best-paid roles in technology and the world’s leading AI companies need it to scale safe, effective deployment. This program is your route into it.

How it works

A career pathway, not a course you pay for.

1

You join Revolent

Become a Revol and begin a structured training program with a clear path to on-site deployment.

2

You cross-train

Complete in-depth training of 6-8 weeks, depending on your prior experience, to build a deployed, evaluated and documented capstone portfolio.

3

You're placed

Embedded on-site with a world-leading AI lab’s team, still as a Revolent employee for up to two years.

4

You grow

We keep developing you during your placement, allowing you to earn additional certifications.

5

You convert

Four in five Revols convert to their client’s team permanently. Strong performance is the path to a permanent role, a proven outcome, though not guaranteed for any individual.

The commitment, plainly:

Training starts with a two-week trial period. After that, if you leave during your placement period of up to two years, you repay the costs associated with the training you’ve received. Our Talent Acquisition team will discuss the details with you before you commit.

The program

How we train you

An in-depth, hands-on initial training program spanning 6-8 weeks depending on prior experience — full-time and intensive. Every week ends in something built, evaluated and defensible. You leave with a deployed, documented portfolio, not a badge.

6-8 weeks

Full-time, by prior experience

What these systems can do and how they fail

GenAI & agentic engineering

Reliable systems on non-deterministic models: retrieval, agents and tool use

Evaluation, observability & safety

Prove it works, catch it failing and defend it to a risk function

The latest AI tooling

We train in a variety of leading models and tools, prioritizing practical application

Production deployment & LLMOps

Run, scale and cost it in, inside the client’s environment

Customer discovery & scoping

Find the real problem; size the smallest credible system

Real-world capstone project

Demonstrating stakefolder trust, commercial acumen and strong technical ability

Certification is built in: Achieve an industry-recognized AI architecture certification during training and leading cloud AI certifications afterwards.

The role, in plain terms

What FDEs do

You embed directly with an AI lab’s most strategic enterprise customers, building production AI applications, not demos. Day to day, that’s four main areas of responsibility.

01 · Discover

Run technical discovery

Sit with the customer’s engineers and map the workflows, data and constraints that matter.
02 · Build & ship

Ship into live systems

Put production artefacts, agents, tool integrations and evaluation frameworks into the customer’s real environment.

03 · Evaluate & fix

Prove it, then harden it

Design evaluation frameworks and troubleshoot live issues, often with the customer watching.
04 · Feedback

Close the loop

Share what you learn with product and engineering, so the next customer benefits.
Who we’re looking for

Does your profile fit?

This program is for experienced hands-on technology professionals with high agency and proven customer delivery/ consulting success, typically senior software or data engineers, tech leads or engineering leads with 5+ years’ experience. No deep AI/ML background required; we train the AI layer.

Career progression

Progression is fast by design.

As an FDE, strong performers become visible quickly. The work is high-stakes and highly valued and total compensation grows substantially with seniority, with equity a growing share at senior levels.

Indicative total compensation (US market, confirmed at offer): entry-level FDE from the low-to-mid six figures; senior/ staff levels considerably higher. Figures vary by market and are set out in your offer.

The process

Five stages, each built to mirror real FDE work.

1

60 mins

Screen

Your background, including your technical, delivery and commercial expertise.

2

4-6 hrs

Take-home build

A working service over messy data, plus a brief for a non-technical stakeholder.

3

60 mins

Defense

We probe your decisions, then extend the build live.

4

75 mins

Solution design

An open customer scenario: discovery then design for cost and risk.

5

75 mins

Deep dive

Live coding and architecture Q&A, closing on leadership and delivery scenarios from your own experience.

You’ll hear back within three weeks of your final stage, and every candidate in our interview process gets real feedback.

FAQs

The honest answers

No. If you can ship production software, we add the AI layer during the program.

No. Placement is part of the pathway and a permanent offer is the intended outcome based on your on-site performance, not a guarantee.

You will need to commit to the full training course plus up to two years of on-site placement. There is a two-week trial period so you can determine if the program is right for you. Your Talent Acquisition contact walks you through the exact terms before you commit.

Placement is on-site with the customer’s team, and travel to customer sites is part of the role. Specifics are confirmed during the interview process.
